Whether you’re looking for a class field trip to explore museum exhibits or seeking a STEAM workshop for your students, you’ll find it at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum (SDMRM). We offer many types of programs for preschool through sixth grade groups. Our school visit programs are rooted in Preschool Learning Foundations, The California State Standards for Math, History-Social Science, Common Core, and Next Generation Standards. No matter which type of school visit you choose, they all provide students with exploratory, engaging, fun STEAM, social science, and language arts learning experience.
Visiting the museum with more than 10 kids? Make a group reservation for a school visit through our online reservation form, and save! Reservations must be made one month in advance. Museum memberships, passes, coupons, or other discounts are not valid payment for group visits. Advance registration is required to receive the discounted group rate. Unregistered groups will be charged the regular admission rate. We reserve the right to turn away groups who do not have reservations in order to maintain an appropriate museum capacity.
For safety reasons, children must be accompanied by adults at all times. To ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, SDMRM requires all groups to maintain a minimum supervisory ratio at all times. One adult for every ten children, preschool through sixth grade.
The generosity of donors makes it possible for Friends of Balboa Park to offer scholarships to Title 1 schools. These scholarships help fund fieldtrips, which allow students to see the wonders of Balboa Park, including The San Diego Model Railroad Museum! We offer six layouts of various scales.
